Art Therapy Lab — an evolving space for international community, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research grounded in the foundations of art therapy practice to promote person-centered, relational, and socially responsible care across arts, culture, and health fields.
Our Mission
Art Therapy Lab is an international platform centered on interdisciplinary collaboration and community-based practice at the intersection of art therapy and related fields. Founded and directed by internationally experienced art therapist, artist, and educator Julia Volonts, we design healing arts programs within virtual and community spaces in the form of community workshops, international residencies, professional development initiatives, and more.
Our work is person-centered and art therapy informed, emphasizing relational, socially responsible community engagement through art, with a mission is to:
Connect people globally through shared experience of art-making
Expand access to healing arts through partnerships + collaboration
Support future practitioners in art therapy, arts in health, and related fields

Reflection & Inquiry
Art Therapy Lab is evolving its research identity into a space of dialogue and collaboration between art therapy and the broader arts in health movement, exploring how both fields can work together to support ethical and socially responsible community care.
As we move forward, we hope to connect more deeply with our existing community and continue building an international network curious about how art heals and how we can grow together. We invite you to join our community of creatives from over 45 countries by signing up for our newsletter.
